Term 2 Week 8 - 12th June 2026

Can you believe that it is the end of Week 8, already?! The first Semester of the year for our Preps has disappeared before our eyes! And things aren’t slowing down anytime soon. The next couple of weeks heading into the holidays are going to be super busy.

The main thing for parents to be aware of is the School Swimming program which begins next Monday. This will run daily until the end of term. Communications have been sent to all parents via Compass. Please read through these as there are lots of helpful tips and information that will assist in making this a fun experience for everyone.

A highlight over the last fortnight was definitely our school photos. As it was our Prep’s first ever primary school photo day, there was lots of excitement in the air. We were very proud of the way in which all our students conducted themselves during this very busy day. And we are excited for all families to receive their fabulous photos of their wonderful children.

At the moment, students are also participating in finalising both Numeracy and Literacy assessments as we begin to finalise Semester One reports. We are very proud of the progress all of our Prep students have made so far this year and look forward to sharing their learning with families.

If you need to speak with your child’s class teacher, please feel free to email to arrange a suitable time. Mornings can be quite busy as we prepare for the students to enter the classroom, so scheduling a time ensures we can give you our full attention.

What we are learning!

Maths:

In Maths, we have been learning more about numbers over the past couple of weeks. Students have been practicing their counting skills, the language of numbers, addition and subtraction and using various resources to increase confidence and build knowledge. We have also been doing our final assessments in preparation for the mid-year reports.

Inquiry:

In our Inquiry sessions, students continue to learn about Community and what it means to be a part of one. They have shown great interest in this area of their learning journey. We have looked at a range of resources over the last couple of weeks including what it was like to be at school in the past and compared that to our own experiences here in the present. This was definitely an interesting topic for them as they begin to build their knowledge and understanding in an increasingly broad range of areas.

Literacy:

Our Literacy block runs from 9:10am to 11:30am each day. We greatly appreciate families supporting a punctual start to the school day, as this ensures students are ready to engage in learning from the beginning of our Literacy sessions. Arriving on time helps students settle into the classroom routine and make the most of valuable learning opportunities.

In Literacy, students continue to develop their reading and writing skills with increasing confidence and independence. Many Preps are now applying their growing knowledge of sounds and high-frequency words to write simple decodable sentences. It has been fantastic to see the progress students are making as readers, with increasing fluency, accuracy and confidence evident across the cohort. We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and perseverance students bring to their Literacy learning each day.

This term, students have also been exploring recount writing. They enjoyed creating recounts about their wildlife animal experience, using photographs from the day to help sequence and describe events. In the coming weeks, students will also be writing about our recent visit to the park. Writing about meaningful, real-life experiences supports students to develop their writing skills, as they can draw on their own knowledge and memories to generate ideas and communicate their thoughts with greater confidence.

Readers continue to be sent home. We kindly ask that you continue to be proactive reading with your child each night.  Home readers should not be difficult for your child. Please remember to fill in the reading diary with notes on how they are progressing as we do read these regularly.

Leader In Me:

Students are also participating in regular Leader in Me (LIM) lessons each week. During these sessions, students are learning important skills such as being kind and respectful, making good choices, listening to others and working together positively with their classmates.

The Preps have enjoyed learning about the different habits through stories, discussions and classroom activities. It has been wonderful to see students beginning to use the language of the habits in their everyday learning and friendships across the classroom and playground.
