Yr 8/9/10 Materials Technology

Year 8 Materials and Technology

The students in Year 8/9/10 Materials and Technology have been creating unique design solution in response to a design brief challenge. They have developed a criterion based on the design brief information and constraints they had to comply with. The students researched, explored and developed a range of viable ideas by designing and drawing using multiple styles including Computer Aided Design. Then it was into the making and creating phase of their cutting boards, where they safely accessed both hand and power tools and finally sealed their boards in a food grade vegetable oil.

Finally, students evaluated and used their product to test that each criterion and functionality were successfully met and to evaluate the function of the cutting board as they help with preparing a family meal. The pictures below show how proud and excited the students are, and ready to take their cutting boards home.

Year 9 /10 Materials and Technology

In Semester 1 this year, students worked their way through the design process and developed skills of designing and creating a detailed small jewellery box. Students displayed confidence and safe practices when they were exposed to a range of tools and machines including the laser engraver that enabled them to transform raw materials of a variety of timber species, into good quality and functional products.

The students proudly displayed their creative pieces that were all different from the other, a result of persistence and hard work, hopefully inspired to take on further challenges in future via VET and VCE technology subjects in their senior years.
