Waste2Taste
Written by VCE VM 12 Student Shetayah Gruneklee
Over the past few weeks, our VCE VM 12 class has been developing our Waste2Taste project, where we have been learning how to reduce food waste while helping our local community. Every Friday at 11:00am, we walk to the Salvation Army to deliver and share the food we have prepared together.
On the mornings before our visits, we work as a team to bake a variety of delicious treats, including apple crumble, apple and rhubarb pies, and apple and rhubarb muffins. These baked goods are then provided to people visiting the Salvation Army, allowing us to give back to our community in a meaningful way.
A big part of this project has been using ingredients that may have otherwise gone to waste. We used stewed apples and rhubarb donated to the Waste to Taste program, transforming them into tasty baked goods. This has helped us understand the importance of reducing food waste and finding creative ways to use surplus produce.
The project has required a great deal of teamwork. From preparing ingredients and baking, to packing the food and walking it to the Salvation Army, everyone has worked together to ensure each visit is successful.
Through this experience, we have developed valuable skills in communication, cooperation, and community service while making a positive impact on others.
The Waste2Taste project has been a rewarding experience that has taught us about sustainability, teamwork, and the importance of supporting our local community.
