YOUTH MYKI & V/LINE TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORT FOR STUDENTS: Youth Myki & V/Line Information
Dear Parents, Guardians and Students
From 1 January 2026, public transport across Victoria will be free for children aged 5 to 17 years.
To access free travel, all eligible young people must carry a Youth myki card and tap on and tap off each time they travel.
A Youth myki card can be purchased for $5 online via the Public Transport Victoria website or from a staffed station or PTV Hub.
V/Line Travel – Important Information for Secondary Students
Please be aware of the updated requirements for students travelling on V/Line services.
Travelling on Ticketed V/Line Services
Children under 18 travelling on ticketed V/Line services must:
- Obtain a paper ticket or e-ticket prior to travel.
- Present their Youth myki card to receive a $0 ticket.
Please note: A Youth myki card alone is not sufficient for travel on ticketed V/Line services. Students must hold a valid issued ticket for their journey.
Travelling on Booked V/Line Services
For booked V/Line services, students can use their Youth myki card number when making a booking to access free travel.
Students must still carry their Youth myki card while travelling and present it to authorised officers if requested.
Important Reminders
- Ensure your Youth myki card is valid and registered (if applicable).
- Always carry your Youth myki card when travelling.
- Follow all V/Line booking and ticketing requirements before boarding.
