OUTDOOR EDUCATION

YEAR 9

Year 9 Outdoor Education students have been developing their First Aid skills as part of their elective program this term. First aid is an important part of Outdoor Education, helping students learn how to respond safely and effectively in emergency situations.

During the unit, students learned about the DRSABCD emergency action plan — Danger, Response, Send for Help, Airway, Breathing, CPR and Defibrillation — and why each step is important when assisting someone who may be injured or unconscious.

Students also took part in practical activities, practising skills such as checking for responsiveness, placing someone in the recovery position, performing CPR and working through simulated emergency scenarios.

These hands-on experiences help build confidence and teamwork while reinforcing the importance of staying calm in an emergency. Great work to all students for their focus and commitment to learning these valuable life-saving skills.

YEAR 9 OUTDOOR EDUCATION HIKE

Year 9 Outdoor Education students recently completed a 9km hike along the stunning George Bass Coastal Walk, travelling from Punchbowl Road to Kilcunda Township. Despite the hot and humid conditions, the group embraced the challenge and made the most of a fantastic day outdoors.

The hike was part of their preparation for the upcoming overnight Outdoor Education adventure. It provided students with the opportunity to test their shoes, clothing and gear, while also building teamwork, resilience and confidence.

Along the way, students were rewarded with breathtaking views from the dramatic cliff tops overlooking the ocean and rugged coastline. Experiences like this remind us that there is no better classroom than the great outdoors.

It was a wonderful day for students to explore, connect and grow together as a team.

Thank you to Ms Burt and Mr Douthat for organising the hike and supporting students along the trail.
