Exciting news! The Parkdale Secondary Science Fair is back for 2026!

Science Fair is an annual competition giving students the opportunity to create and enter artworks, projects or writing pieces for judging with awards and prizes presented to the best pieces. The event will culminate in a showcase night during science week in August, inviting the entire school community to view all the amazing work that has been submitted as well as participate in a range of fun science-based activities and demonstrations.

Students may enter into three possible categories of either Scientific Experiments, Scientific Artwork, Models and Photography, or Scientific Writing. These can be projects done either at home or high-level schoolwork. The competition included age divisions for Junior school (years 7-9), Senior school (years 10-12) and a Primary school division open to any local primary school students to enter.

Registrations are now open, so it’s time to get started! Registration forms are available at the office or online via compass newsfeed. If you have any questions, please contact ScienceFair@parkdalesc.vic.edu.au or speak to Mrs Tilmanis in the science office.

National Youth Science Forum participants thank Rotary

Our 3 NYSF participants attended a Rotary Meeting on April 28th to thank the club for their sponsorship and speak to the members about their week-long experience at the University of Queensland.  Amelia N, Hannah D and Abi A spoke about the many activities, research institutions and labs they worked in during the time as well as the students they met and the other participants from all over Australia that they have made ongoing connections with.  The NYSF program is for current Year 11 students to:

  • participate in tours of science and technology facilities,

  • learn about cutting-edge research,

  • engage with industry partners and research providers,

  • learn about university, training and STEM career pathways,

  • mix with like-minded students their age from all over Australia,

  • participate in social and team-building activities, and

  • network with former NYSF participants

NYSF applications are now open for January 2027, at both University of Queensland and ANU in Canberra. For more information about Rotary Scholarships please contact Ms Mullins Julie.mullins@education.vic.edu.au or apply directly on line at https://www.nysf.edu.au/programs/year-12-program/
