Year 8 Geography

Year 8 Geography has been studying the topic ‘Water in the World’ with a focus on India’s water resources, regional water scarcity and management of available water resources. For our formal assessment this term, students completed a scaffolded fieldwork report based on various fieldwork activities they undertook as a class. Year 8 will finish the term unpacking hydrological and atmospheric hazards focusing on impacts, responses, and management.

8N tried to simulate the Nepal Floods by building a village and flooding it with water. This was very enjoyable to the students and prompted insightful conversations about disaster management and the situation in Nepal. Mrs Usher

Year 11 Geography

Term 3 has had Preliminary Geography students looking at processes and patterns regarding people. Students made a day trip to Cabramatta to conduct some fieldwork, while learning about spatial patterns related to culture. The class explored how cultural diversity is expressed through the landscape, observing the distribution of businesses, cultural food, signage and the geography of cultural practices. The class has since become familiar with various cities around the world, population challenges, and influences to global conflict.

Year 11 also had the opportunity to take part in a Primary School Taster Day and were themselves teachers for a short period - delivering a short lesson on how to use a compass!

Year 11 Ancient History

This Term, Ancient History students investigated the ancient Celts, learning about religion, everyday life, and weapons and warfare. They began the Term with an archaeological excavation in the school’s sandpit, digging up a skeleton and a number of artefacts, before having to come up with hypotheses regarding who they thought the individual was, as well as drawing conclusions based on the nature of the evidence.
