Taster Day Inspires Over 1,000 Primary Students at Elderslie High School
This year, Elderslie High School proudly welcomed over 1,000 Year 3 to 6 students from our partner primary schools for our engaging Taster Day experiences. These visits offered young students a wonderful opportunity to explore high school life through a variety of interactive mini lessons.
This term, our Year 3 visitors enjoyed a range of exciting activities, including spotting diverse pond life under microscopes in the science lab, creating beautiful collages in the art room, making sweet beats in music, and baking delicious treats in the commercial cookery kitchen. They also decoded ancient hieroglyphics in the history session and tested their coordination with some lively table tennis games during PDHPE.
A standout feature of our Taster Days has been the involvement of our Future Teachers and Student Buddies. These groups have been exemplary in showcasing respectful and responsible behaviour, as well as outstanding leadership. The Future Teachers planned and delivered a range of workshops throughout the year, including an engaging reading session during the Year 3 visit where Elderslie students paired up with the younger guests for partnered reading.
Our Student Buddies have played a key role by guiding visitors across campus, assisting teaching staff, helping Year 3 students navigate various activities with confidence, and leading games and activities during breaks. They have also answered the many questions primary students have about transitioning to high school, and have created genuine connections, making our visitors feel welcome and supported.
We have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to connect with our community of schools and are incredibly proud of how our Future Teachers and Student Buddies represent Elderslie High School. We look forward to continuing to build connection and partnership through future Taster Day experiences with primary students next year.
