First Aid Qualifications - 3rd September
EHS students successfully completed their First Aid qualification through Tammy Taylor Training. This practical course equipped them with essential skills to respond confidently in emergencies, covering CPR, managing unresponsive casualties, treating wounds, burns, choking, and allergic reactions.
The training focused on hands-on practice and effective communication, as well as risk management to build real-world competence. On completion, students received a nationally recognised First Aid certification, valid for three years, which strengthens their future employability and ability to contribute to safer workplaces and communities. This valuable experience ensures our students are prepared to assist others in need and demonstrates their commitment to learning important life-saving skills.
Fast Forward Year 9 - 8th September
Selected Year 9 students attended their first Fast Forward experience, “Charge Towards Change” day. This day was designed to inspire and prepare our students for their future educational and career paths in an engaging and supportive environment. Throughout the day, students participated in activities that helped them explore their interests, strengths, and transferable skills, while also experiencing a university campus firsthand.
Participating in University Day provided a unique glimpse into higher education and helped build confidence for the transition ahead. The program encouraged students to think deeply about who they are and what they want to achieve, while developing transferable skills that are essential for success in any career path.
Highlights of the Day:
Exploring Transferrable Skills: In the first session students participated in interactive challenges and case studies to uncover their unique interests, qualities, and strengths. This helps them understand the broad range of skills that can be applied to a variety of future careers.
Campus Exploration: Students will enjoy guided adventures around the university campus, engaging in fun challenges and collecting clues. This familiarises them with the university environment and sparks excitement about further study options.
Team-based Case Analysis: Working together, students apply their personality strengths and analytical skills to solve intriguing case studies. This activity encourages
teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving—key skills that will benefit them throughout their education and beyond.
Reflection and Growth: The day concludes with evaluations and discussions, helping students reflect on what they learned and how they can continue to “charge towards change” in their own lives.
Zeal Futures Visit - 14th September
EHS was excited to welcome Zeal Futures during Period 5 to introduce students to upcoming apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities with Camden Council.
Zeal Futures connects young people with employers, providing opportunities to earn while they learn, gain valuable workplace experience and work towards a nationally recognised qualification. Apprentices and trainees are also supported throughout their journey with mentoring and career guidance.
During the session, students had the opportunity to learn more about the exciting pathways available with Camden Council, including how to apply, what to include in an application and what to expect throughout the recruitment process.
It was fantastic to see students asking questions and beginning to explore how an apprenticeship or traineeship could become a pathway into their future career.
Thinking of Leaving School at the End of 2027? Start Planning Now!
Students planning to enter the workforce at the end of 2026 are encouraged to register with a range of apprenticeship and traineeship providers. Now is the time to research the industries you're interested in and bookmark the websites of key employers. Many large companies are already advertising their 2027 apprenticeship and traineeship positions—or will be in the coming months—in preparation for next year’s intake.
Don’t forget to also check your local council and businesses, as they often post upcoming opportunities on their websites. Early preparation and regular checking can give you the edge in securing your ideal role.
Any apprenticeship traineeship opportunities that school receive are forwarded to student’s school email address.
Work Experience- Gaining skills in the real world of work
Many students have engaged in work experience this semester. Work experience provides real life experience in the industry or occupation of their choice. Students can be inspired and motivated by the people they meet and benefit from connecting with employers. Students must be at least 14 years old to participate.
Students can try multiple occupations over the year to give them a good sense of what they may and may not be interested in.
Reasons to do work experience:
Experience in the industry
Increased knowledge of their careers pathways.
Looks good on a resume to employers.
Could gain an apprenticeship or job
Students who attend work experience are placed on school business; therefore, the absence does not affect their attendance.

Finding work experience is your child’s first step to independence.
Parents and other adults around the student may be able to suggest workplaces that they know take students for work experience. Alternatively, the internet is a major resource to help a student in securing work experience. Students can email or call workplaces to ask whether they provide work experience or students are also encouraged to walk up to business’ and introduce themselves and ask to speak to the manager.
Year 10 Careers Lessons
During 2026, Year 10 have engaged in one career lesson a cycle. Students use two main platforms for investagating careers. Students can access the class Google Classroom to access all materials when they need it.
Skillsroad (https://skillsroad.com.au/) and Job Jump are online platforms that help students explore career options and plan their futures. Both sites offer useful resources such as career quizzes, job profiles, industry information, and practical advice on resumes, interviews, and finding work experience or apprenticeships.
These tools support parents and students by providing up-to-date guidance and information, making it easier for young people to make informed choices about education, training, and employment pathways. Students have a login for Job Jump and should have created an account for Skill Road.
Lessons this term have covered:
Investigating TVET (TAFE While Completing Their Senior Years)
TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training).
Students have the opportunity to complete an extra qualification while completing their Preliminary and HSC course. Therefore, students leave school with their HSC Certificate but also a qualification up to a Certificate III, dependent on the course. TVET helps people prepare for careers in areas like construction, hospitality, healthcare, IT, engineering, and more. It provides them experience in a field of work they are wondering about. It focuses on hands-on learning and workplace skills, making it easier for students to find work after finishing their courses. This qualification can be used in their resume.
Round 1 for TVET closed on Friday 11th September. Offers to students will arrive approximately the 16th November. Due to an increase in stude16th of applying for the limited placements, students and schools will be required to provide additional information via a questionnaire/survey. A list of impacted courses and students will be shared with schools at the beginning of Term 4.

How the course supports their HSC and career goals
Why they chose the course
How they will meet attendance and mandatory work placement requirements
Transition Plans
A transition plan is a guide that helps students move smoothly from Year 10 to their next stage of education or training, such as Years 11 and 12, vocational courses, or work opportunities.
These plans are created to support students in making informed choices about their future learning and career paths. They identify students' strengths, interests, goals, and any support they might need to succeed.
The influence of a transition plan on students is significant because it helps them:
Set clear goals for their education and career
Understand the options available to them
Prepare for changes in their learning or work environment
Build confidence in making decisions about their future
Work Experience Procedure
Students learnt about the work experience procedure, how to find work experience and had the opportunity to complete the My Work Experience modules, which is a requirement to complete prior to going out to work experience.

Year 10 students are encouraged to undertake work experience during the last five weeks of Term 4. This helps them better understand what interests them and what does not. Attendance during work experience counts as school business, so it does not affect students attendance record.
Resume Writing
Students have been able to create a resume or edit their existing resume. A resume is a crucial tool for showcasing students skills, experiences, and achievements to potential employers making them more competitive candidates in the workforce By using resources like Skills Road to complete career quizzes, investigate different careers, and explore resume templates and cover letters, students gain valuable insights into how to present themselves professionally. A well-crafted resume not only opens doors to employment opportunities but also demonstrates a student's commitment to their career development and readiness to enter the job market.
Future Teachers
The Elderslie High School Future Teachers Club has been busy this term leading with Excellence, Honour and Service. We had a great day out at Sydney Zoo where they led workshops for Primary School Students as part of Science Week. Back at EHS, they ran a Wide Reading program for Year 3 students from our feeder Primary Schools during the Taster Days. Finishing up with the HPGE Cup where they helped Primary School students solve puzzles, build models, and play games during breaks. The Future Teachers have exemplified leadership, kindness, and empathy representing our school and themselves admirably.
