Culture Club – Bringing Cultures Together at KSC

This year marked the debut of Culture Club! The overwhelming support of the community was amazing, we’ve consistently had around 60 members attending each session making us one of if not now the most popular club at Koonung!

Culture Club has been busy bringing diverse traditions to life! From welcoming the Lunar New Year to exploring Aussie culture, our sessions have been a vibrant mix of learning, celebration and fun.

We kicked off the year with an intro session, students got to know each other, shared their cultural backgrounds and played fun icebreaker games. It was great to see so many keen students at the first session excited to celebrate diversity!

Next, we welcomed the Lunar New Year with a lively celebration. Students learned about the festival’s traditions, from red envelopes to symbolic foods, indulging in some delicious cuisine too. A special highlight of the event was an incredible performance by Jay Huang on the bamboo flute, making it a truly memorable experience!

We also explored Aussie culture, diving into what makes Australia unique. From learning slang to making fairy bread, it was a great way to appreciate and share experiences about life in Australia.

Most recently, we celebrated Persian New Year (Nowruz), learning about the beautiful traditions behind this festival. Students discovered the significance of Nowruz with guest speaker Radin Pakniat walking us through.

A big special thank you to everyone who participated and especially special guests and those behind the scenes helping make these events a success! We look forward to bringing even more cultural experiences in Term 2! Get keen!
