Interschool Sport and House Competitions

TERM 1 INTERSCHOOL SPORT WRAP UP
Well done to all students that went out on Interschool Sport to represent Koonung this term! We saw significant interest and enthusiasm across the board with many students keen to show their skills and have a fun day out with their peers in various sports. We had a total of 26 teams across eight sports compete in the Whitehorse Division in Term 1. Below is a summary of those sports (with special mentions to students who represented our school values) as well as some photos of their competitions.
Intermediate Volleyball – 18 February
Well done to our Girls A team who narrowly missed out on progressing to EMR and finished the day as runners up. All teams showed fantastic collaboration off and, on the court, creating their own game plan and working well together and showing great sportsmanship throughout the day.

Intermediate Boys Baseball – 18 February
The team showed fantastic effort and enthusiasm all day despite some tough competition
all students doing a great job! It was great to see the confidence of the boys progress throughout the day and ending with a fantastic win against Box Hill. Special mention to Aidan O’Brian for some huge hits and a home run, Aime Fleischer for his mentoring and leadership of the team, and Luc Earle Rosback for volunteering to be backstop all day and showing great endeavour.
Senior Boys/Mixed Cricket – 27 February
Great job to our senior cricketers who gave it their all despite only 9 players to win a game! Unfortunately, they lost their second, but their effort throughout the day couldn’t be faulted.
Special mention to Tarkyn for his leadership and drive to get numbers for a team together and leadership on the day.
Intermediate Boys Cricket – 28 February
The team competed hard all day, going down narrowly in both games against East Doncaster and Blackburn. Shout out to Mitch who retired not out on 30 in both games and lead the team well. Well done to all for your efforts on the day.
Intermediate Girls Cricket – 28 February
Congratulations to our girls for winning the competition and will be representing us at EMR in term 4! The girls won both their games and demonstrated amazing teamwork and positivity encouraging each other so well throughout the day. Big shout out to Varsha who performed exceptionally well and showed great leadership.
Intermediate Tennis – 28 February
We hosted our neighbouring schools here at Koonung for a fantastic day of Tennis. It was a great day with lots of close games and excellent sportsmanship throughout.
Shout out to Izzy who demonstrated the value of excellence throughout the competition and excellent sportsmanship. Well done to all that played!
Senior Netball – 4 March
Congratulations to our mixed A team who were only one point away from winning the day! Well done to all of our other teams who competed enthusiastically throughout the day and demonstrated excellence in their skills and respect/collaboration in their sportsmanship. Special mention to Bridget and Ella for fantastic leadership and performance all day.
Senior Tennis – 4 March
Our senior students had a great day playing on our home courts here at Kooning with plenty of close games across our mixed teams and great teamwork on display in doubles. Unfortunately despite some close games we narrowly went down to Box Hill and Blackburn, great job to all for giving up a day of your VCE studies to represent the school!
Senior Volleyball – 11 March
Congratulations to our senior volleyballers who were very close to progressing through, with the boys A team narrowly finishing runners up. The girls were close in all games and put up a fantastic effort. All played in great spirits and represented the school in a great manner, well done.
Year 8 Volleyball – 25 March
Our Year 8 volleyballers displayed huge improvement across the day as they perfected their digging, setting and most importantly serving throughout the day. There were some close games from all teams, with lots of celebrations when we won a point, set or match! There was also fantastic support from our students watching and supporting each other throughout the day which was great to see!
Special mention to Olivia and Noa in our girls team for some great performances and Girsha, Atrina and Alexa who stepped up to play in the boys/mixed A team and almost defeated Blackburn going down 20-17. Jasper as well for showing impressive play sense and shots all day.
Well done again to all students who represented Koonung this term and we look forward to seeing more teams in action in Term 2! Be on the look out for sign ups and Compass Newsfeed Posts regarding these opportunities early next term.
The School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team Vic representative program provides a development platform for Victoria’s emerging student athletes to participate in the annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships. SSV coordinates the selection process for Team Vic teams in partnership with relevant state sporting organisations.

Special mention to Year 11 student Parsa Samareh for making the Team Vic 18&U Tennis Team! Congratulation Parsa and the Koonung community wishes you all the best in your competition in Bendigo from May 3-May 10!
Congratulation to Grace Sharkie (10A) for making the Vic Metro U16 Girls Trial Squad! This is a fantastic achievement and all of us at Koonung wish you all the best for the trials!
