Western Port Secondary College Transition Visit
On Monday 7th September, our Year 6 students were fortunate to welcome Miss Whitby from Western Port Secondary College for a special transition session about what to expect when starting secondary school next year.
Miss Whitby took students through a typical day in the life of a secondary school student, helping them understand how high school routines differ from primary school. She discussed some of the common misconceptions and worries Year 6 students can have about transitioning to secondary school which helped answer many of their questions.
Students also had the opportunity to learn how to read and use a secondary school timetable, including understanding different subjects, classrooms and daily schedules. Miss Whitby showed students photos of the Year 7 team who will be there to support and guide them as they begin their secondary school journey.
The session was a valuable opportunity for our Year 6 students to learn more about what lies ahead and to begin feeling more familiar with the routines and expectations of secondary school. A big thank you to Miss Whitby and Western Port Secondary College for taking the time to visit us and support our students as they prepare for this exciting next step!
Camp
Day One: Camp Manyung
On Wednesday 9th September the grade 3 to 6 students went to camp Manyung. In the morning we packed our bags onto the bus and set off for the short trip. Upon arrival we went up to the Regatta House where we met this lady named Jess. She gave us some camp instructions and then we had some free time to settle in to our cabins. My cabin mates were Maya, Melissa, Alana, Maddy and Alex.
When it came to the activities we were separated into three groups. There were the Dolphins (which Miss Mac did a great impression of), the Sharks and the Penguins. Miss Mac was in charge of the Dolphins with Brenda, Jason was in charge of the Sharks with Miss Bacon and Mr D was in charge of the Penguins with Jemima.
My group had two activities on the first day, they were Crate Climbing and Tree Rolling. The Crate Climbing activity was a challenge where we had to get as many crates as possible stacked up high in 2 and a half minutes. Then someone had to climb to the top using a harness without the crates falling. The most amount of crates that we had stacked was 16 which Miss Mac managed to climb up.
The Tree Rolling was an obstacle course that was up high. Each student was harnessed and attached to a guide rope for safety. My favourite challenge on this course was when we had to run around the course as fast as possible.
For dinner the first night we had Burrito Bowls. It was delicious. After dinner we had a talent show which was really good.

Night Walk
After a long second day at camp the teachers thought it would be relaxing to go on a night walk and wind down. As the teachers rounded all of the students up we started the walk, Miss Mac said "Remember to hold your torch to the ground so that we don't hurt the animals eyes"
While we all walked along we spotted ring-tailed possums, galah's and even Bunjils nest. As we finished we went and looked at the stars. We saw Jupiter, a shooting star and satellites. Then we went back to camp.

Camp
On Wednesday the 9th of September our 3 to 6 students went off to camp Manyung. After we arrived we got a briefing about camp and we went to our house which was called the Regatta House.
My groups first activity was Crate Climbing where there were 3 teams with various jobs. After Crate Climbing we went to Tree Rolling which is a bit like tree surfing but anyone can do it.
On our last day came some great activities like the Flying Fox and the Giant Swing. On the Giant Swing most of us went to the top where there was a great view of the bay. On the Flying Fox we zoomed high through the trees.
We all had a great time and wished we could go again.

Camp
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in week 9 were very interesting for grades 3 to 6. Interesting because of school camp.
The bus left on Wednesday at around 10am, from 9 to 10 the students got to practise their acts for the talent show later that day. When we arrived at camp Manyung at 10:30 am, we got an introduction to the camp from a camp staff member with the name Jess. Jess told us where we were allowed to play and what the rules were for around the cabins. After this intro we got to eat morning tea and settle into our rooms. I had a room with Amity, Isla and Maia. We all liked each other and we were happy that we were all together. Next we had our lunch.
After lunch we got to start our activities, there were three activity groups: The Dolphins, the Sharks and the Penguins. I got put into the Sharks Maia. Our first activity was Tree Rolling The Tree Rolling was really fun, we got to go around the trees with a harness dodging obstacles as we went.
Next we had a go on the Giant Swing. To me that was really scary. Would you find going to the top of a 18 metre giant swing scary? Apparently my face was white afterwards. For dinner that night we had burritos. I liked the rice and the lettuce.
The talent show at night was really good. Most groups made stuff up as they went, which was a good thing. My group did a murder mystery. I was the detective but I never got to solve the case.
At the end of camp everyone was exhausted and couldn't wait to get home, even though camp was over.
