WELL BEING

Spring Holidays: Time to Recharge, Reconnect and Find Your Joy
As we head into the September school holidays, it is the perfect time for our students and families toslow down, recharge and reconnect. Holidays don't need to be packed with activities or big adventures. Sometimes, the best thing we can give ourselves is permission to rest, spend time together and enjoy the little things.
After a busy term of learning, friendships, routines and challenges, our brains and bodies benefit from some downtime. Think of the holidays as an opportunity to refill your wellbeing cup!
REST & RECHARGE
Sleep is one of the simplest ways we can look after our wellbeing. Encourage children to have a break from early alarms and busy schedules, while still keeping a reasonably consistent sleep routine.
Try:
- Having a slower morning when possible.
- Reading, listening to music or enjoying some quiet time.
- Taking a break from screens before bed.
- Allowing some completely unplanned time.
RECONNECT
The holidays provide an opportunity to spend quality time together without the usual rush of getting ready for school, work and activities.
It doesn't have to cost anything! Try:
- Having a family meal together, if you dare, let the kids cook!
- Going for a walk or bike ride, explore our local area.
- Playing a board game or a ball. kicking challenge.
- Bake something together.
- Having a family movie or games night.
- Talking, laughing and simply being together.
GET OUTSIDE & MOVE
Spring is a wonderful time to get outside. Physical activity doesn't have to mean organised sport or exercise.Play counts too!
Walk the dog, ride a bike, explore the backyard, visit a park, have a dance party or simply kick a ball around. Moving our bodies can help us feel calmer, happier and more energised.
FIND YOUR JOY
Think... What makes you feel happy, calm or like yourself?
For some of us it might be drawing, building, gaming, reading, sport, animals, music, cooking or spending time with friends. There is no right answer. Encourage children to make time for the things that bring them genuine enjoyment.
A LITTLE LESS PRESSURE
The holidays don't need to be perfect. There may be arguments, boredom, tired days and moments when everyone needs some space... and that's okay!
Wellbeing is not about feeling happy all the time. It is about having the time, relationships and strategies that help us manage the ups and downs.
OUR HOLIDAY CHALLENGE
Over the holidays, see if your family can make time for:
- One thing that makes you laugh.
- One thing that helps you relax.
- One thing that gets you moving.
- One thing you can do together.
- One thing you are grateful for
Most importantly, enjoy being together. Take a breath, slow down and make some memories.
From all of us at Bittern Primary School, we wish our students and families a safe, happy and refreshing Spring break. We look forward to seeing everyone back feeling rested, recharged and ready for Term 4!
