Hands on Learning (HoL)

Hands-On Learning: Learning, Creating and Growing Together

Our Hands-On Learning (HOL) students have been busy getting involved in practical projects, building new skills and taking pride in what they can achieve.

We have now completed our dry riverbed project at the back of the office building. This project has given students the opportunity to work together, use practical skills and see a project develop from an idea into something that will become a valued part of our school environment.

We have also been very fortunate to receive a wonderful cubby house built by the students at Padua College in Tyabb. Our HOL students have now begun the exciting job of painting the cubby. There is still a little more work to do before it is ready for our students to play in, but the transformation has already begun. We are looking forward to seeing the finished cubby and watching our students enjoy it.

Alongside our practical projects, we have been working on our individual focus plans, helping each student set personal goals and develop skills that will support them both at school and in everyday life.

Some of the goals we have been working towards include:

  • Taking on leadership opportunities with confidence.
  • Becoming more aware of our own limits and knowing when to ask for help.
  • Taking positive risks when faced with new or unfamiliar situations.
  • Being proud of our efforts and recognising our own achievements.
  • Developing independence and teamwork through activities such as cooking lunch together.

These experiences give our students opportunities to practise important life skills in meaningful and practical ways. Whether they are cooking a meal, painting a cubby, completing a construction project or working towards a personal goal, every experience provides an opportunity to learn, contribute and grow.

We are very proud of the effort, teamwork and enthusiasm our HOL students continue to show. There is always something happening in Hands-On Learning, and every project is another opportunity for our students to discover what they can do.
