ICT (Information and Communication Technology)

Welcome to our first year of running ICT (Information and Communication Technology) as a specialist subject. I'm really looking forward to teaching our students skills that they can use in the classroom and beyond.

To start the year, we've had two main focuses:

• learning to type
• using technology to help find books in the library

Many of our students have been using typing.com to learn and practise how to type accurately and quickly. They've completed an initial typing test to see how well they type, with the aim of improving their score throughout the year. I even did the same test to see how quickly I could type (84 words per minute). Here are some of our top scores so far - I can't wait to see how quickly our students' scores improve:

• Braxton - 37 words per minute (WPM)
• Isabella F - 36 WPM
• Maddy - 29 WPM
• Chelsea - 27 WPM
• Ruby P - 25 WPM

All classes have learned how to find books in the library. Our junior classes took photos of some of their favourite books which will be turned into posters around the library. Our senior classes learned how to search for different books using the library catalogue system. Hopefully this will all help our students to make the most of the excellent books we have available in the our library.
