Beloved Parents and Students

Welcome to Term 3!

How wonderful it was to have our Bishop His Grace Kyriakos of Melbourne with us to greet our students for the beginning of the new school term.

In the Orthodox Christian Calendar, we are approaching the fast and the feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos, the Mother of God. The Theotokos is a pivotal person in the life of the Church. She intercedes on our behalf and is an example of faith, loyalty and obedience for us all. There are many names given to the Theotokos and many icons dedicated to her throughout the Orthodox World. She is the Protectress, Directress, Fortress, Hope of the Hopeless, Quick to Hear and the Joy of Those who Sorrow to name a few. The Holy Mother of God leads us to her Son to Christ.

From August 1- August 14 we fast so that we can prepare to celebrate her Dormition(Falling Asleep). During this fasting period we abstain from meat, dairy and fish(except on the Feast of the Transfiguration on August 6). The evenings are filled with Supplication Services to the Mother of God. I would encouraged you all to attend, on Friday after school we will conduct the service in English.

May the Theotokos intercede and shelter you and your families.
