The beginning of term three at the ELC has been quite eventful, the children have eagerly returned to engage in learning and play with their teachers and peers. Our Assistant Director, Bethany Rix, collaborated with the children to create a beautiful ‘Welcome’ artwork to enhance our foyer. Along with English, we have also featured the word "welcome" in Greek and in the Wurundjeri people's language, the traditional landowners of Melbourne. We aim to incorporate more languages to reflect our amazing multicultural early learning community in the coming weeks.

Our K4 learners have enjoyed their first term three orientation visit to Junior school. They participated in a storytelling session with Mrs Parkes at the library, and then proceeded to the Prep classroom where they were introduced to Mrs. A. The children were given a tour of the Prep classroom, and then joined Mrs A for a Jolly Phonics session, followed by engaging in literacy-based activities. It is such a wonderful experience for our K4 students to have these orientation sessions to streamline their transition to school in 2025.

Here are some important reminders for term three:

Kindly remember to pack a warm coat and hat for outdoor play throughout term three.

Please ensure you have access to the Xplor App and update your email if necessary, to ensure that you receive all ELC communications and learning updates for your child.

K4 families – Please join us for the Prep Orientation Program (Parent Session) on Thursday 1 August from 9:15am at the School Caf.

Children have been diving into their emotions by reading "In My Heart" book by Jo Witek. We've explored what makes us happy, sad, or upset. To express their learning, the children have been invited to draw their self-portraits using a mirror to help them identify their facial features and expressions. It was a wonderful and fun opportunity, as the children seemed to enjoy checking out their reflections and making different facial expressions. Then, we will explore what's in our hearts and learn more about the different feelings we experience.

In K4A, we have been focusing on the geography and culture of Australia. We began with a group discussion about places we have visited in Australia, which helped us identify each of the states. We then created a map of Australia on cardboard and outlined it with clay. This hands-on project allowed us to visualise the country's layout and work collaboratively. Next, we will enhance our map by adding famous landmarks and more elements of the Australian culture.

This term, we have embarked on an exploration of African habitats, and it has been an amazing experience to watch the children apply the knowledge they have previously learned. They are now confidently and eagerly engaging in these activities, making thoughtful choices of natural materials to create their animal habitats.

Kind Regards
