The Resilience Project – Focus on Gratitude!

Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy are the cornerstones of The Resilience Project (TRP). In this Wellbeing Corner edition, we are going to put a spotlight on G – Gratitude!

What is Gratitude?

Gratitude involves recognising and expressing appreciation for the things in our lives. We are often great at noticing the big, impactful things in our lives like an overseas holiday or memorable birthday gift. In TRP we extend this Gratitude to smaller, day-to-day things we might take for granted – to our family who take care of us, to our peers and colleagues who make us smile, to the morning coffee that helps us wake up in the morning!

Why is Gratitude important?

Practising gratitude consistently and frequently can help us:

  • Pay attention to the positives around us, which can increase feelings of happiness, optimism and life satisfaction
  • Experience positive emotions linked to gratitude, which can impact our mood, self-esteem, stress levels and resilience.
  • Enhance our relationships with others.
