This term in 1B, learners have been exploring a range of exciting topics across Literacy, Mathematics and Inquiry.
In InitiaLit, learners revised their knowledge of vowel sounds, digraphs and CVC words. They explored how the digraphs th and oo can each represent two different sounds and applied this understanding when spelling tricky words. Learners also learned to distinguish between compound words and two-syllable words. They practised creating Super Sentences, ensuring each sentence included a capital letter and full stop, made sense, and clearly expressed a topic.
In Writing, we began our Narratives unit by developing characters and thinking about both their internal and external traits. Learners created a wide variety of imaginative characters, each with unique personalities and appearances.

In Mathematics, learners explored Data by recording information and interpreting it using tally marks and pictographs. They also learned to identify the place value of two-digit numbers by naming the tens and ones, helping them better understand the value of numbers. Learners used concrete materials such as MAB blocks, dice, counters and ten-frames to deepen their understanding.

In Inquiry, learners investigated the role of families and how changing technology has influenced the way families spend time together. They compared the past and present, examining different family roles and how these roles shaped the activities families participated in together.
