Year 2 News

Literacy

Children are enjoying our class novel, The 27th Annual African Hippopotamus Race. As we read, students have been developing their comprehension skills by summarising each chapter and building their vocabulary through the exploration of interesting and unfamiliar words from the text. In Spelling, children have been revisiting graphemes and tricky words covered throughout the term. They have also enjoyed planning and writing a spooky narrative inspired by Halloween, demonstrating creativity and growing confidence as writers.

Numeracy

This week, students completed an assessment on fractions and have demonstrated a developing understanding of dividing objects and shapes into equal parts. Our next Mathematics topic is Data, where children will learn how to collect, organise and represent information using tables, tally charts and graphs. They will also develop their skills in interpreting data and drawing conclusions from their findings.

Inquiry Learning

In Science, students are continuing to investigate the properties of materials and how materials can be manipulated or changed for different purposes. Recently, children explored this concept by designing and building bridges, then testing and modifying their designs to make them stronger. They will also observe physical changes through a hands-on investigation making popcorn, identifying how heat can transform materials.

Year 2 Excursion

Students thoroughly enjoyed their recent excursion to Echuca. At Twisted Science, they participated in engaging experiments and observed different types of change in action. They also enjoyed exploring a variety of interactive science exhibits at the Discovery Centre. The children were highly engaged throughout the day and represented our school beautifully with their enthusiasm, curiosity and excellent behaviour.

Cobram Show Writing and Artwork

If you visited the Cobram Show, we hope you had the opportunity to view your child's writing and artwork on display. We are incredibly proud of the creativity, effort and talent demonstrated by our Year 2 students and congratulate them on producing such high-quality pieces.

Religious Education

Our current Religion unit is The Good News. Students have been learning about the ways Jesus shared God's love with others and how we can follow His example through our own words and actions. We have been discussing practical ways to show kindness, compassion and care in our everyday lives, helping us to share the Good News with those around us.

Thank you for your continued support.
