The Great Book Swap
This week, students were invited to bring a gold coin to school to buy a pre-loved book at the OLSC Great Book Swap. The money collected during this event will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, which will be used to provide new, culturally relevant children's books to Communities across remote areas of Australia. Thank you to the senior Arts and Social Justice Leaders for collecting books, setting up the Book Swap and helping on the day to collect coins. This year, we raised $370 as a school community for the ILF, so that's 370 books that have found a new home with our children!!!
Thank you to all who donated books to be sold and to our families who managed to find a few dollars for their children to buy a book or two. Our students all left the Book Swap with big smiles on their faces, excited to buy books for $1 each and take them home to read. This rewarding event will take place again next year, so please hold on to any children's books you would like to take off your bookshelves, until later in 2027.
The 2026 OLSC Book Fair
A massive thank you to everyone who came through the doors of the Book Fair this year. This is an annual event that is always greatly anticipated by the students at our school. The books are provided to us by Scholastic, arriving to school by truck in their book cases, ready to be displayed and sold to our families.
I was overwhelmed by the generosity shown by the OLSC families this year. Your children came in droves, eager to purchase books, diaries, posters and pens. This year, we sold a whopping $6500 worth of books through the Book Fair. As a result, our school receives $2000 to spend on new books for our wonderful Discovery Centre shelves, books to be enjoyed by our students and teachers alike. So THANK YOU again for supporting our school library through this annual event.
