Year 1/2 News

How have we already come to the end of the term!

It has been a wonderful term of learning, growth and new experiences. The students have worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of the progress they have made. It has been fantastic to see their enthusiasm, engagement and willingness to take on new challenges throughout the term.

The students also thoroughly enjoyed participating in the swimming program. They demonstrated great enthusiasm and persistence as they developed their skills and confidence in the water. A big thank you to all our parent/grandparent helpers who generously took time out of their day to support our students as they walked to and from the pool each week. Your time, support and assistance were greatly appreciated and helped make the swimming program a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Thank you to our students and families for a wonderful term. I hope everyone has a safe, relaxing and enjoyable break, and I look forward to welcoming everyone back next term!

Inquiry:

In Inquiry, students have revisited Manor Lakes and Our Lady of the Southern Cross (OLSC), exploring how the local area and school have changed over time. They have compared the past with the present and discussed the changes they can see in their local community and school environment.

Literacy:

In Literacy, students have been learning about animals through a range of informative texts, including Heads and Tails, Heads and Tails: Underwater and Heads and Tails: Insects. Using information from these texts, students created their own “Who Am I?” riddles for their classmates to read and guess the animal.

Students have also been developing their handwriting skills, focusing on correct letter formation, letter placement and using the dotted thirds correctly when writing.

Maths:

In Maths, students have been learning about time and developing their understanding of the language we use to describe time, including o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. Students have also been exploring turns of shapes and using mathematical language to describe different turns. The students have also been exploring how to read and identify the time on an analogue clock. They have been developing their understanding of o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to, and using this language to describe different times.

Religion:

In Religion, students have been learning about Spirit-filled people and exploring how the Holy Spirit guides, strengthens, and inspires people to live out their faith.

A big thank you to all the families who were able to attend our Year 1/2 Faith Night. It was a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together and celebrate our shared faith.

Families had the chance to engage in prayer, listen to a meaningful story and work together to create a beautiful art piece as a special reminder of their faith and the evening we shared.

Thank you to all the families who joined us and helped make the evening such a special and memorable experience.
