As always, we love catching up with news from our former Collegians.

MOCA Addresses Year 12 Students

In recent weeks, our Year 12 students were addressed by a wonderful panel of our Old Collegians about the importance of remaining united with our Mazenod Old Collegians’ Association. Tina Giacco welcomed our Old Boys back to their College, and reminded all our Year 12 students that both Peter Banfield and Tina Giacco are delighted to work together in looking after all our Mazenod Old Collegians, and that they are available to support our Old Collegians in their lives beyond Year 12. Both Peter and Tina are always available for a chat, a catch-up, or to support our old Boys with pastoral, personal, jobs, connections, and in practical ways.

In addition, each of our Old Collegians who came along for the afternoon gave our Year 12 students an insight into their studies, jobs, trades, careers and life journeys beyond Mazenod College. Our Old Collegians came from different age groups, and from very different career paths. After our Old Collegians addressed our Old Boys, our Mazenod College Chaplain, Fr Dominic Rozario OMI, addressed our students about considering a vocation to the Priesthood, and for all students to be open to the call of God in their lives. 

Finally, Sean Sullivan, the President of MOCA, addressed our students and informed them about the events and situations that MOCA has been involved in this year, urging our young men to remain connected with MOCA, through the vast array of groups, events, and support that is available to them in their lives beyond Mazenod College. As we firmly believe and profess, once a Mazenod College Student, always a Mazenod student! Our Old Boys are an integral part of our Mazenod College Community.

Our Old Collegians were Sean Sullivan (MOC1992), Orazio Rossello (MOC2019), Lachlan Scarfe (MOC2006), Oscar Kus (MOC2004) and Geoff Bretherton (MOC1980).

We sincerely thank our Old Collegians and Fr Dominic for their kindness in joining us on this afternoon, and for their willingness and openness to address our students in their presentations, and then later, in chats over an informal barbeque lunch. We also wish to thank our VCE Vocational Major Staff and Students for all their hard work in cooking, and then in serving and providing us with a delicious barbeque lunch! It was a fabulous afternoon! Our sincere thanks to all involved!   

Pastoral Care/Wellbeing

Both of us and our MOCA Committee are always available to chat, or to assist our Old Boys in their times of need. In recent weeks, we have been blessed to support our Old Collegians who are experiencing illness in their families, as well as, Old Collegians who have experienced the deaths of loved ones. We seek to support one another by our prayers, friendship, and actions. Just within the past week, we have been contacted by two families of our Old Collegians, asking for our assistance with pastoral and practical help concerning the funeral, prayers, and pragmatic actions.

Steven Tynan Emergency Services Assembly

As part of our recent Mazenod College Assembly, our school community welcomed back our Old Boys who are part of our Emergency Services. 

This Assembly honours the lives and sacrifices of our Old Boy, Steven Tynan (MOC 1983) and his partner, Damian Eyre, who gave their lives for us all, striving to keep us all safe. We commemorated and celebrated the lives of both Steven Tynan and Damian Eyre who were both young Victoria Police Officers who had a lifetime of policing ahead of them, but who were tragically killed in the early hours of October 12, 1988.

This year, we also remembered and prayed for the Soul of our Old Boy, Matthew Paton, (MOC 1990) a wonderful member of Victoria Police, who died in a tragic accident overseas. Our Assembly was addressed by Detective Inspector Chris Murray (MOC 85) about the importance of making good and informed decisions before we act. During our Assembly, we also honoured all the members of our Victoria Police, the Australian Federal Police, and all our Emergency Service Workers. We sincerely thank Chris and all our Emergency Service Workers and their families for their lives and sacrifices in seeking to keep all of us safe.

MOCA Supports Our “Tee Off For Leukemia Golf Competition 2026”

Join us in our efforts of raising $5,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation through the Tee Off For Leukaemia Golf Competition! The two-man Ambrose styled competition will take place on the 18th of October at Brighton Golf Club in partnership with Basecamp Podcast host, Brady Williams. You don't have to be the next Scotty Scheffler to join as we're welcoming all golfers to get involved with their mates, families and all others keen in joining. Registrations also include a minimum donation of $30 so there's no better time to wake those clubs up and go hit some balls!
