Health & Physical Education

National Health & Physical Education (HPE) Day was celebrated on Wednesday 2nd September. Research shows that young people who participate in regular physical activity experience a decreased likelihood of overweight and obesity, increased levels of engagement, improved academic achievement, and better health outcomes in adulthood. HPE teaches essential life skills: movement, resilience, teamwork, respect and wellbeing. It’s not just about sport - it’s about equipping every young person with the tools to thrive.

The Mazenod community played its part by allowing all students to their wear sports uniform to and from school on the day. Students were encouraged to get involved in a range of lunchtime activities and fortunately Melbourne delivered a beautiful spring day. The Johnson Oval, Oblate Hall and St Eugene’s Park were filled with students participating in physical activity and enjoying the opportunity to be active with their peers. To conclude the day, approximately a dozen staff members took time to stretch, breathe and recharge with a yoga session led by experienced instructor Sarah Piotrowski.

Good luck to all Units 3 and 4 students as they prepare for their final assessments of their secondary schooling journey. As you navigate the challenges of trial exams and the hard work ahead, do not forget the importance of maintaining your health and wellbeing.Enjoy the term break ahead and remember that any physical activity is better than none. Look after your body and mind and get moving this spring!
