Alternate Programs

Dan Garner - Assistant Principal Alternate Programs

The term has started well and students are doing incredible things not only in school but also in the community.  We have had a number of students out in the community completing work trials and work experience, as well as our Blue Group participating in a number of community activities through their engagement with the Centre for Participation.

There are always opportunities available for students who are looking to enter full-time employment. Our senior teachers can connect students with work experience and work trials, and arrange meetings with our local apprenticeships and traineeships coordinator.  Exiting school to a full time job is a target for many of our students, and they are encouraged to speak with their teachers if they need any further support with this.

Looking forward, we are excited that our McKenzie Creek students will be completing a Martial Arts incursion over the next month.  Blue Group will also be continuing their community engagement programs over the next few weeks, with a visit planned to Federation University to better understand their post-school options.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to continue reaching out to program leaders if there is anything we can do to support you and your child.  This is often the toughest time of the year to get to school, and we are here to help however we can.

Senior

Students from the Senior 2 class studying the Victorian Certificate of Education Vocational Major (VCE VM) and Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) have been participating in cooking classes. Students started by making ANZAC biscuits to commemorate ANZAC day and to pay tribute to the men, women and animals who have served in war. Last week they made a snickers chocolate pudding and this week they created pizza using 2 special recipes contributed by a student. One recipe was for the base and the other was for the tomato sauce used on the base. Pizzas were topped with pepperoni and mozzarella. There was a great debate about the use of pineapple as topping with the “no pineapple” side winning. Students can use this activity towards credits for their Personal Development Skills unit.

Horsham Allied Martial Arts

We're excited to welcome an instructor from Horsham Allied Martial Arts to our PE program beginning this week. Students will take part in sessions designed to build life skills, including discipline, character development, goal setting, social skills, stress reduction, conflict resolution, and empowerment. We look forward to seeing our students grow through this fantastic opportunity.

Creative Builds

It's been wonderful to see students making the most of their break times, constructing imaginative huts and forts throughout our beautiful outdoor spaces.
