Year 10 Elevate

On Tuesday, the 10 March, the Year 10 cohort attended an Elevate Education incursion. It was a really helpful and educational session that gave us practical tools to improve the way we study. Our presenter, Emelia, was funny, engaging, and made the whole experience enjoyable. One of the best parts was how many clear strategies and solutions she shared to help us study more effectively.

Throughout the session, we learned different ways to stay organised, how to break tasks into smaller, manageable steps, and how to study in a way that actually helps information stick. Emelia also showed us simple techniques for managing our time, avoiding distractions, and making revision feel more structured instead of overwhelming.

The session provided easy‑to-use study strategies that we can apply straight away, and it made the idea of studying feel much more achievable and less stressful.

We encourage students to experiment with the skills learnt, particularly as they head into Semester exam preparation next term.

Attendance

Families are kindly asked to support us in ensuring their child is at school each day on time for form group. Having regular attendance across all subjects, allows for positive connections to be formed with their peers and teachers as well as sound learning opportunities. We understand this may not be feasible for some students and families and ask that should this be the case, this is recorded on Compass, using the appropriate reason. In addition, if the Middle School team can assist in facilitating this with your child, please reach out to the correct Assistant Director as outlined below:

Year 9:

Mr. Luigi Spoto (9A - 9E)

Ms Feda Gatsios (9F - 91)

Year 10:

Rebecca White (Surname A - K)

Nathan Tobin (Surname L - Z)

We remind families that our attendance policy at MGSC aligns with the VCE policy and therefore students who are completing an accelerated VCE subject this year, must be aware that five unapproved absences are acceptable per semester. This may include family holidays and ask for your support on this in ensuring holidays are taken during the school holiday period. Teachers are not expected to provide additional work for students who are absent due to holidays; however, the onus falls on the student to be checking the work outlined in the Compass lesson plan.

Year 10 Work Experience

The Year 10 students will be required to complete their work experience from 18 May - 22 May. The preparation is well underway for our students to benefit from their time out in the workforce however, a gentle reminder that all necessary paperwork is due by Monday 23 March. This information has been regularly shared in Form Group sessions.

Year 9 Elevate

Upcoming Thursday 23 April

Year 9 students will be involved in a study skills workshop run by Elevate Education. This will be a compulsory incursion during period 1. All information has been shared with families and students via Compass and Google classroom respectively.
