Holiday Reading

Students are invited to borrow books to read during the holiday period. The library has a variety of new books located in the New Books disc display area which have been requested by students who consider them to be an excellent read. One such series is the Vampire Diaries by L J Smith, first published in the 1990s and now a successful Netflix series. Dark, gripping and romantic – the complete series of 13 books can be found in the Horror genre.

Expressions of Interest

The Children's Book Council of Australia is inviting young voices from across Australia to join the conversation about the books on their Book of the Year Shortlist. To find out more about Shadow Judging, please visit the CBCA website.  In a nutshell, the idea behind this program is for young adults to read alongside the CBCA judges to decide who they think the CBCA Young Adult Book of the Year Award 2026 winner should be!

Criteria:

  • Be 13 - 18 years of age
  • Read all of the six shortlisted books (to be announced at the end of April)
  • Discuss these titles with your peers against the CBCA Book of the Year Awards criteria and create a response during lunchtime meetings
  • Vote for the 2026 winners.

If you meet the above criteria, and are up to this exciting challenge, email an expression of interest to library@mgsc.vic.edu.au with your details before the end of Term 1.

Book Mark Competition

There has been a record number of submissions this year!

Stay tuned for the announcement of the two winning entries and the top ten bookmarks – which will be printed for the MGSC community to use.  There has been a fantastic response to the competition this year, with beautiful hand drawn/painted designs and thoughtful digital designs submitted. Thank you to all students who have entered.  Copies are on display in the library for everyone to enjoy.
