Student Wellbeing

Mrs Rebecca Beveridge

What a busy first Term we have had at school so far this year! It has been excellent to see all the new connections being built inside and outside of classrooms this term! This term, we have had a big learning and exploration of emotions! Next term in our Wellbeing Curriculum, we are looking forward to learning about Emotional Regulation! We will also be starting our Online Digital Safety Learning through the Cyber Safety Project! We were excited to be accepted to the Cyber Safety Project Pilot through MAC's, where students will be engaging with lessons and resources that teach them about how to be safe online! There will be a range of resources coming for families as well. One of which is an upcoming event that you may be interested in.

Staff Professional Learning- Team Teach

Next Term, Staff at St. Joe's will be participating in a Professional Learning course on April 24th, which is known as Team Teach. Team Teach is a positive behaviour management framework focused on understanding behaviour as communication, aiming to de-escalate situations and reduce risks. It aims to support children's emotional needs while keeping staff and children safe.

  • Behaviour is Communication: Team Teach training helps staff understand what a child is expressing through their actions—such as feeling frustrated, scared, or needing help—rather than just viewing it as "misbehaviour".
  • Focus on De-escalation: The primary goal is to use verbal and non-verbal techniques to calm situations before they escalate.
  • Positive Support: The approach aims to build positive relationships and support the emotional and social needs of the child.

PBL- Positive Behaviours for Learning

A few families have reached out regarding a reminder on what PBL is. Below is our PBL handbook that you can read through!

We have recently been accepted to participate in further PBL Training to best support our students to display Respectful, Responsible and Resilient Behaviours. We are looking forward to this opportunity and continuing to work alongside families to support the growth and development of all our students!
