All Things Hub

Springvale Rise Primary School Community Hub

This week we wrapped up the Kelly Sports 5-week program, which focused on developing children’s gross motor skills through a range of outdoor games such as obstacle courses, cricket and bean bag toss. The program also encouraged families to spend time outdoors with their children. The children had a fantastic time exploring the activities, learning to take turns, developing directionality (left, right, over, under), and practising their hand–eye coordination.

In collaboration with the Centre for Equity and Health and Kidsafe Victoria, we also hosted a focus group with our Punjabi community at the Heights Campus. The session gathered insights into parents’ perceptions of water safety and shared draft water safety messages to see how they resonated with the community. The feedback will help guide future work and inform how water safety messages are promoted within the community.

Our Women’s Group continues to grow, with new friendships forming each week. Recently, the group enjoyed a creative arts activity where participants began painting a canvas and then swapped with a partner every five minutes until everyone had contributed to each artwork. The outcome was not about the final product, but a reminder that everyone contributed something meaningful. It was also a chance for participants to connect with friends and dedicate an hour of self-care for themselves.

I also had the pleasure of representing our school at the PreventX Conference, hosted by Safe and Equal, which focuses on the prevention of family violence. I spoke about our community, our Hub, and the work we do with families and students to develop respectful relationships. This work is important in ensuring families have access to the knowledge and support needed to help prevent violence before it starts.
