Year 10 Tree Surfing
On Friday 4 August, the two Year 10 Outdoor Education classes were lucky enough to visit Treetops Adventure in Belgrave. It was a great way to demonstrate what we have been learning throughout this elective, such as the risks involved with activities and the motivation to why we want to do them.
After getting set up with our harnesses and clips, alongside a very detailed demonstration, we were able to tackle the treetops courses. Ranging from easy 10 minute courses to very difficult and 50 minute long courses.
Some of our favourite obstacles of the day were definitely the 120 meter flying foxes and the very unstable tightropes. But of course, our absolute favourite was the terrifying big drop, having to step off a very high platform and going into free fall before the harnesses catches you.
This excursion was an amazing opportunity to have fun with your classmates, have a laugh and challenge both your physical and mental strength when obstacles became difficult and scary. Those who participated were able to step outside their comfort zones and push past what they thought were their limits, teaching them that anything is possible if you set your mind to it.
Any students considering Year 10 Outdoor Education in the future, let this be your sign to jump at it!

Year 11 VCE VM
It has been another busy and rewarding term for our Year 11 VCE VM students, with a strong focus on community, resilience, personal development and preparing for the world of work.
Students began the term working in pairs to develop their own Community Calendar. This project encouraged students to think about the needs and interests of different communities and to work collaboratively to plan a range of events and activities.
As part of our focus on personal perseverance and community issues, students read Nedd Brockmann’s Fire Up. The text provided plenty of opportunities for students to reflect on resilience, overcoming challenges and the importance of setting goals and pushing yourself outside your comfort zone.
This theme was put into practice when students visited The Salvation Army Headquarters, where they participated in a walking tour and learnt more about the organisation's work supporting people and communities. Students then took on their own “Uncomfortable Challenge”, completing an impressive 14.3 km walk. This was a fantastic achievement and demonstrated determination, perseverance and a willingness to challenge themselves.
To finish the term, students participated in Mock Interviews as part of their preparation for the workplace. They should be extremely proud of the way they approached this experience. The feedback from the interviewers was excellent, with students demonstrating confidence, preparation, communication skills and a professional attitude.
Congratulations to all of our Year 11 VCE VM students on a fantastic term. Their willingness to participate, challenge themselves and develop new skills has been wonderful to see.
