Year 1/2 News
How are we already in Week 7! It has been such an exciting time for the 1/2 students over the last few weeks. They have been so engrossed in their learning and have embraced each new challenge with enthusiasm and curiosity.
It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they work collaboratively, share their ideas and develop new skills. There have been so many moments of discovery, creativity and perseverance, and we are incredibly proud of the progress they are making.
We can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings as we continue to learn, explore and grow together!
Inquiry:
Students have been exploring the past and present at OLSC, looking closely at how Manor Lakes has changed over time and why these changes have been important to the community.
It has been wonderful to see the students so engaged as they learn more about their school, the local area, and the changes that have shaped the place they call home. They have particularly enjoyed discovering how Manor Lakes has grown and developed, and making connections to their own experiences and lives within the community.
Literacy:
In Literacy, the 1/2 students have been exploring a wonderful range of Book Week texts, including Bob and Dob, The Colours of Home, Beyond the Shore, The Frog’s First Song and The Emperor’s Egg. Through a variety of engaging activities and discussions, students have developed a deeper understanding of the characters, themes, settings and messages within each text. It has been fantastic to see their curiosity and enthusiasm as they explored each story.
The 1/2 students were also very fortunate to participate in an author visit from Andrea Rowe. Students have been exploring a range of Andrea’s texts, including Crashing Castles and Jetty Jumping. During her visit, Andrea shared her experiences as an author and helped students understand the many steps involved in creating a book. It was wonderful for students to discover that writing a book involves much more than simply putting words on a page. They were highly engaged and excited to learn from an expert storyteller and gain insight into the creative process behind their favourite books.
It was also wonderful to see all of the 1/2 students so excited and engaged during our Book Parade. They thoroughly enjoyed celebrating their love of reading by dressing up as their favourite book characters. The parade was a fantastic opportunity for students to share their enthusiasm for books and celebrate the joy that stories can bring.
Maths:
In Mathematics, the 1/2 students have continued to consolidate their understanding of multiplication and division. They have been developing their ability to recognise and represent equal groups, using arrays to explore the relationship between rows, columns and number facts.
To celebrate and demonstrate their learning, students created their very own Array Cities. They designed buildings using rows and columns to represent different multiplication and division equations. It was fantastic to see students applying their mathematical understanding in such a creative and hands-on way, while making meaningful connections between arrays, multiplication and division.
Religion:
In Religion, the students have been exploring the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and learning how these gifts can guide the way we live and treat others. Through engaging discussions and activities, they have been reflecting on how qualities such as love, kindness, patience, joy and generosity can be demonstrated in their everyday lives.

- Friday 11th September - School Closure Day
- Wednesday 16th September - Hot Dog Day
- Friday 18th September - 9am Assembly (Knock Centre) + 1pm finish!
REMINDER
Take home books are changed each Wdnesday and returned on a Thursday - Please make sure you are filling in the take home reading log.
iPads needs to be brought daily, charged and ready for use.
