An excursion to QUT Gardens Point Campus was undertaken on Monday, 23 February, for the Year 8 Digital Solutions class. Students worked collaboratively to create an orbiting robotic solar system using Sphero robots, providing an engaging introduction to coding.
During the workshop, students explored the solar system and investigated the relationships between planet mass, orbit, orbital speed, and distance from the Sun. They also developed a deeper understanding of basic programming principles using Sphero’s drag-and-drop interface. Additionally, they calculated orbital circumferences and designed, modelled, and coded a robotic solar system.
In addition to this, students participated in a VR workshop where they experienced virtual reality applications in various fields, including agriculture, interior design, architecture, marine biology, and civil engineering. It was a fantastic immersion experience for our Year 8 Digital Solutions class!
