Around Our Level

The Preps, Year 1 and Year 2 students are looking forward to Friday’s upcoming Lego BrickZ incursion. Students will have the opportunity to explore, investigate, and build/construct in this dynamic hands-on session. We are all very excited to take part in this activity.

This week in Literacy, we have been learning about the letter ‘s’ when we make words plural and how it changes the sound to ‘z’. For example, "dog" becomes "dogs". We have also been looking at the letter ‘k’. Our students continue to recognise and build on their sight words/heart words and working on their personal lists. These words are tested regularly and new personal lists are sent home once they have been achieved.

In Maths, we have been learning about number bonds, addition, and part and whole numbers. Students have used concrete materials, such as counters and unifix, to model different ways of making numbers. This week we are learning about ‘doubles’ and number facts to 10. Our Preps used domino tiles to recognise doubles and to match numbers.

In Integrated Studies, we have been learning about ‘Community Helpers’, in particular ambulance and police officers. This week our focus will be on doctors and nurses.

We have been reading non-fiction texts and exploring facts, recognising the title, author, illustrator, contents page, glossary and index page, which are all special and unique features of non-fiction texts. Our Preps also borrowed non-fiction text types this week in library.

In Wellbeing, we have been learning about the ‘4 Friendship Facts’:

  1. No friendship is perfect

  2. Every friendship is different

  3. Trust and respect are the two most important qualities

  4. Friendships change and that’s OK

On Wednesday the 27th of May, we will be undertaking the National Simultaneous Reading Challenge. Schools across the state will log in and share the book ‘Luna Roo the Kangaroo’ at the same time. A big thanks to Kerry Graham for organising this again this year.

In Prep, classes are sharing 30 books to meet the requirements of the Premiers' Reading Challenge. If you and your child would like to add more books to their personal list, you can ask their classroom teacher for their username and password to log onto the platform to log additional books. The reading challenge will finish in August, so keep reading, sharing books in class, and borrowing books from the library.

Celebrating our Students

Students are nominated by their teachers to receive a certificate of acknowledgment. The below students' certificates will be presented at our next assembly.
