Last week, students participated in an exciting one-day STEAM excursion hosted in partnership with Monash University. This enriching experience gave students the opportunity to strengthen their creativity, digital technology skills, and understanding of online safety through a series of engaging, hands-on workshops led by Monash University staff.
Throughout the day, students rotated through a range of interactive STEAM challenges designed to encourage collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation. One highlight was the Coding a Cybersafe Game Challenge, where students used Scratch coding software to design and build digital games that promoted positive and safe online behaviour. Students demonstrated impressive creativity and persistence as they explored coding concepts and game design.

Students also took part in the Design a Cybersafe Hero Challenge, using Tinkercad to develop their digital 3D design skills while creating superheroes that communicated important cybersafety messages. Excitement grew as students discovered their designs would soon be professionally 3D printed and returned to them.

Another memorable experience was the Infomercial Design Challenge. Working in the Monash recording studios, students rehearsed, recorded and produced short multimedia infomercials that creatively promoted cybersafety messages. This workshop provided valuable insight into digital media production, while building students’ confidence and communication skills.

As students moved throughout the university learning spaces during the day, they also had the opportunity to experience what university life is like and gain an insight into future pathways in STEAM and technology-related careers.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Mrs Baum for organising such an amazing learning experience for our students. The excursion was both inspiring and engaging, and students returned with new skills, knowledge, and enthusiasm for STEAM learning.
