A Spotlight on Learning

A Spotlight on Learning in the FLC on Heights Campus

This term has been full of exciting learning for our Foundation students, and we are very proud of the progress they are making across all areas.

In Phonics students are building their confidence in reading by learning to blend sounds together. It has been wonderful to see students beginning to recognise and read words independently as they apply these skills.

In Reading, students have been developing their understanding of how stories are structured. They have been practising sequencing events and identifying the beginning, middle, and end of familiar texts. This helps build their comprehension skills and supports them in retelling stories in a clear and organised way.

In Writing, students are learning how to write simple sentences. A key focus has been on leaving spaces between words and using full stops at the end of sentences. We are encouraging students to take pride in their writing and to share their ideas clearly.

In Numeracy students have been exploring 2D-shapes, learning to identify them and describe their properties, such as the number of sides and corners. They have also continued to practise counting and writing numbers, building strong foundations in number knowledge.

In Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), students have been introduced to the Zones of Regulation to help them better understand their feelings. They have been learning to name different emotions, describe how emotions feel in their bodies, and recognise what emotions might look like in themselves and others. These skills are helping students develop greater self-awareness and build positive strategies for managing their emotions.

We are delighted with the enthusiasm and effort students are showing in their learning and look forward to a strong finish to Term 2!
