Over the last week, our Tuesday English classes from both campuses went on an excursion to the city as part of our learning for Reconciliation Week. Together, we travelled by train and took advantage of the free government public transport initiative to visit the Koorie Heritage Trust at Federation Square, an Aboriginal owned and managed cultural organisation.
The Koorie Heritage Trust is a place where people can learn about Aboriginal culture, history and art. The visit connected strongly to Reconciliation Week as it encouraged us to better understand and respect First Nations peoples, learn from the past and work towards building a better future together.
Miss Sheena, our English class teacher, also created a fun search and find activity where the ladies had to look for special artefacts throughout the museum. It was wonderful to see everyone’s competitive side come out, while also supporting and helping one another to find the artefacts along the way.
In addition, we celebrated National Volunteers Week by holding a morning tea across both campuses to thank our wonderful volunteers for all that they do. From our dedicated School Council members to those who support our breakfast club, food relief program, cooking special meals and assisting with our Mother’s Day stall, our volunteers play an important role in our community. We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support, care and generosity our volunteers provide and sincerely thank them for the wonderful work they do each and every day.

In playgroup, we were fortunate to welcome a special visitor from the Springvale Library. During the session, the children sang nursery rhymes together and read books highlighting the importance of reading in the early years and how this can support children with school readiness before starting school.

In Women’s Wellbeing Group, we welcomed South East Community Links, who are running a series of workshops focused on saving money on utility bills and learning about concessions that may be available to support households. On June 4, they will also be running a session on renters’ rights, so if this interests you, come along and learn more about what you may be entitled to.
