Snapshots from Springvale
As we move through the middle of Term 2, it has been wonderful to see students across all year levels continuing to work hard and show great enthusiasm for their learning. From our youngest learners building confidence in literacy and numeracy, to our older students developing deeper thinking and independence in the classroom, there has been a strong focus on demonstrating excellence and resilience as learners who strive to achieve their best and are not afraid to make mistakes as part of the learning process.
Our teachers are also demonstrating excellence and resilience as learners themselves. Last week, teachers from both campuses spent their Wednesday after-school professional learning session further strengthening our approach to Explicit Teaching. Together we explored strategies to make lessons even more engaging and effective by increasing opportunities for students to respond throughout lessons. These strategies included "Turn and Talk", "Choral Responses", gesture responses such as "Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down", "Cold Calling" and the use of "Mini Whiteboards". These techniques will help keep students actively involved in their learning, while also allowing teachers to quickly identify misunderstandings and adjust instruction where needed.
As the colder winter mornings begin to settle in, we would also like to remind families about the importance of arriving at school on time each day. The beginning of the school day is an important time for students to settle into routines, connect with their classmates and engage in valuable learning opportunities from the moment lessons begin. Consistent attendance and punctuality make a significant difference to student learning and wellbeing.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
Mrs. Mirela Karup
