From the Principal's Desk

Panel Member at the Government Schools Principals' Conference.
Last Friday, I was very honoured to be invited to participate in a panel discussion at the 2026 Government Schools Principals Conference.
I had the privilege of joining Fiona Taylor, Principal of Western Heights Secondary College in Geelong, and Angela Singh, Deputy Secretary, First Nations Strategy, Policy and Programs. Together, we explored the theme: "First Nations Education – Continuing the Journey, Self-Determination and Unfinished Business."
The discussion provided an opportunity to share some of the work taking place at Springvale Rise Primary School, as well as to amplify the voices and perspectives of members of our Koorie Staff Network. A key message I shared was the importance of principals engaging deeply in learning about First Nations education and taking an active leadership role in advancing this work within their schools and communities.
I also spoke about the important role that Principal Networks can play as drivers of change through collective accountability. As part of the discussion, I challenged Networks to consider how stronger accountability architecture at a network level could help ensure that every Koorie child thrives, regardless of which school they attend.
It was a privilege to contribute to such an important conversation and to showcase the commitment of our school community to reconciliation, equity and excellence in education.
A special thank you to Ms Jamar, Mrs Orme and Mrs Karup for their support on the day. I am also grateful to the members of our Koorie Staff Network, whose wisdom, advocacy and leadership continue to guide and strengthen our journey.
SLC Camp
A reminder that our annual SLC Camp will take place this week, from Wednesday to Friday, at Golden Valleys Adventure Resort in Flinders. This is a new venue for our students and staff, and we are excited to explore all that it has to offer. A sincere thank you to all of the staff who have volunteered their time and energy to make this experience possible. Their commitment ensures that our students can enjoy a safe, engaging and rewarding camp experience.
I know that families will be eagerly awaiting the photos and GoPro footage from the trip—and I must admit, I will be too!
Keep smiling,
Debbie Cottier
(Principal)
