Highlights from Heights
On Wednesday our school participated in National Simultaneous Storytime, joining schools, libraries and communities across Australia in sharing the same story at the same time. At 12:00pm, students listened to the story of Luna Roo: the Kangaroo Baller, written by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd and illustrated by Jake A Minton. The story followed a spirited rookie kangaroo captain and her outback football team as they overcame nerves and face tough opponents. National Simultaneous Storytime is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading, storytelling and imagination, while also highlighting the importance of literacy and shared experiences. Students thoroughly enjoyed listening, engaging in discussions and participating in follow-up activities inspired by the story.
Wednesday was also the official start of National Reconciliation Week, an important time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how we can contribute to reconciliation in Australia. Reconciliation Week encourages us to build respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians. Throughout the week, students will engage in learning experiences that deepen their understanding of First Nations cultures, histories and perspectives. These learning opportunities help strengthen our students’ understanding of reconciliation and their role in creating a more respectful and inclusive future.
Finally, we would like to remind all families about the importance of road safety during drop-off and pick-up times. Please encourage children to always use the supervised school crossing and to wait until the crossing supervisor indicates that it is safe to cross. Our crossing supervisors play an important role in helping keep everyone safe, and we ask all students and families to treat them with kindness and respect. A friendly hello and following their directions carefully helps create a safe and positive environment for our whole community.
