Senior School Report

Ms Kristina Vasilakis

Message from the

Director of  Learning

Senior School

Ms Kristina Vasilakis

The past few weeks have been a significant period for our Senior School students, with many completing their first SACs, SATs and ELTs for the year. We would like to congratulate all students on their efforts and the positive way they have approached these important assessments.

Our Year 11 students also participated in their first Elevate Education session during iCreate Study Space, focusing on memory and mnemonics. This session provided students with practical strategies to support their revision and retention of key knowledge and skills that will be essential as they progress through VCE.

As we approach the end of Term 1, we would like to acknowledge the strong start our students have made. We encourage all students to maintain their study habits over the break, including updating their study schedules and continuing with 2–3 hours of daily study to consolidate their learning and stay on track.

Our Senior School students were also highly involved in our Harmony Day celebrations, demonstrating outstanding leadership through organisation, rehearsals and performances. We are incredibly proud of the way our students contributed to such an inclusive and vibrant school event and were particularly moved by School Captain Thi Nguyen’s keynote speech.

As we move into the final weeks of term, Progress Reports will be released in Week 9, providing an important snapshot of student learning behaviours and progress. Families will also be contacted if students are identified as at risk, ensuring that we can work together to support each student’s success.

We also continue to support students with additional needs through Special Provision and Special Examination Arrangements (SEA), ensuring that all students can access assessments fairly and demonstrate their learning.

We thank our students for their continued efforts this term and encourage them to take pride in their progress so far. We look forward to seeing this momentum continue into Term 2.

Year 12 VM Maths in Action at the Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix

Students recently attended the Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix, gaining an exciting insight into how mathematics is applied in a real-world setting ahead of their upcoming assessment.

Throughout the day, students explored key mathematical concepts of measurement and data analysis. Watching the races brought these ideas to life, as students saw how teams use precise calculations to optimise performance, strategy, and pit stop efficiency. They were also required to measure certain sections of the track and facilities to recreate a scale model of the F1 track in the classroom.

A major highlight of the excursion was seeing the Formula 1 drivers up close and experiencing the intensity of race day. This helped students connect their classroom learning to the real world, particularly in understanding the critical role maths plays in elite sport.

The experience was both engaging and educational, providing students with valuable context and inspiration as they prepare for their assessment.
