Performing Arts

We’ve had a fantastic start to the year in Performing Arts for 2025!

Students across the school have been busy honing their rhythm skills, using different rhythm activities and games to play, say and clap basic rhythms. Students have been doing a wonderful job at reading rhythms andworking as a team to help each other become more confident when sight reading rhythms quickly.

This week, students have begun their instruments for the year and have started learning the basicskills to play simple songs.

Foundation students have been using percussion instruments such as egg shakers, Level One and Two have begun songs on the chime bars, Level Three have been learning riffs on the xylophones, Level Four have started learning where the notes are on the keyboard and Level Five and Six have begun learning chords on the ukuleles.

Students will be working towards playing short songs to perform to each other in class.

As well as instruments, we have been learning short singing songs, working on our Solfa skills and memorising lyrics.

This year we have many events that feature Performing Arts.

Our Whole School Choir has begunrehearsals, with Foundation students invited to join in Term 2. Choir rehearses on Friday’s at lunchtime in the Performing Arts Room. There is no formal sign up process.

In Term 2 we will be inviting students to audition for the Performing Arts Showcase. This showcase will take place in August as an extra performance for the year. Students are invited to audition with their acts, whether that is singing, dancing, playing and instrument or any other Performing Arts ‘act’.  Auditions can be in groups of solo performances. Sign up information will be available next term.

Later in the year we will be preparing our annual Whole School Concert that is held at Caulfield Grammar in December. Students will learn all their singing and dancing for this in Performing Arts in Term 4.

This is always the highlight of our year as all students are part of the performance.
