Acknowledgment of Country
At Jells Park Primary School we respect and acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which we learn in many ways, for example by learning indigenous words, flying the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, having indigenous literature in the library, studying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives embedded in the curriculum and displaying Acknowledgements of Country.
An Acknowledgement of Country is an opportunity for anyone to show respect for Traditional Owners of the land and the continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country.
Acknowledgement of Country is important for children to take part in as it helps connect learning to place by acknowledging the unique histories, cultures, and connections to land of Indigenous communities. It encourages students to develop a deeper appreciation for the land on which they live and learn and fosters environmental stewardship and respect for Country. Further it promotes reconciliation, inclusivity and respect.
Below is a photo of our new Acknowledgement of Country sign that will be placed in the gym foyer next term after painting works have been completed. The words were written by Mrs Kaylene Friebel and the artwork completed by Ms Kate McKavanagh.

Premier's Reading Challenge
Hello Jells Park Community,
We are thrilled to once again take part in the Premier’s Reading Challenge at Jells Park Primary School, celebrating 20 years of words and wonder!
The challenge is a fantastic way for our students to develop a lifelong love of reading, both at school and at home. Students from Prep to Year 6 are encouraged to read a set number of books and record their efforts online. Those who complete the challenge will receive a special certificate of achievement signed by the Premier of Victoria!
Each student will receive a bookmark with their login details to help them get started. We encourage all families to support their children by reading together and keeping track of the books they enjoy.
We can’t wait to see our Jells Park readers embrace this challenge! Let’s celebrate 20 years of reading magic and make this our biggest year yet.
Happy reading, Jells Park! 📚✨
