Year 7 News

Semester Changes

A semester change is coming. This means that students' timetables will change slightly. New timetables will be distributed to students next week.

Core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Humanities and Science will remain the same for the entire year. However, elective subjects such as Home Economics, Product Design, Performing Arts and Art will change at the start of Week 10.

Absences

As winter sets in, the number of absences due to illness has begun to increase. We would like to thank all parents and carers who have promptly notified the school of their child's absence—it makes our job much easier.

A reminder that absences can be recorded by contacting the absence hotline on 53 817 200, via SEQTA Engage, or by directly messaging your child's form group teacher.

Uniform

With the colder weather, students are reminded to wear appropriate clothing to stay warm and comfortable while still following the College Uniform Policy.

Long-sleeve undergarments must be white or navy, and hoodies are not to be worn underneath school shirts. We have noticed a number of students coming to school wearing non-school puffer jackets. School puffer jackets are available from Lowes for students who would like to wear them. However, non-school puffer jackets, such as Kathmandu jackets, are not part of the College uniform and should not be worn. If students need to wear one for warmth, they are required to obtain a uniform slip from the Year 7 Office.

On wet-weather days, the M Wing is open for students to remain dry during breaks. However, we have had issues with some students choosing to stay outside in the rain. This poses a health and safety risk and may result in consequences, as we must prioritise the wellbeing of all students.

Assessment and Reporting

Over the past three to four weeks, our Year 7 students have been completing assessment tasks across all subjects. It has been a busy period in the classroom, and students have been applying themselves well.

Staff have been working hard to mark assessments and prepare mid-year reports. Students are encouraged to use the feedback provided to continue improving across all areas of study.

If you have any questions regarding assessment, please contact the relevant classroom teacher.

Lockers

There has been an increase in rubbish and food scraps around the Year 7 locker area. To help prevent mice and keep the area clean, students must ensure that all rubbish is disposed of correctly and that lockers are kept tidy.

To reward students who maintain clean and organised lockers, we have introduced the 'Locker Fairy', who will be recognising and rewarding students for keeping their locker area tidy.

Values Winners

At our last assembly, we recognised Adele Meyer, Puri Hayes and Albie Pietsch for their fantastic work and positive attitude in class. Congratulations, and keep up the great work!
