Year Two Team News

with Joel, Bianca I, Zoe and Rochelle

Hello Year Two families,

We are proud of the growth mindsets our students have shown as we have conducted a variety of different assessments over the past few weeks for our mid-year reports. It has been fantastic to celebrate all the hard work the students have done so far and we look forward to sharing the information with you shortly.

Last week, the Grade 2 classes recognised the importance of Reconciliation Week by participating in an activity that reinforced the significance of First Nations Australians, their cultures, histories and experiences. The students have developed a greater understanding about the significance of Reconciliation Week and in paying our respects to Indigenous Australians.

 Important news:

  • Term 2 Oral Presentation: Presentations begin this week. We look forward to hearing about the people that are special to our students in Year Two. Please refer to the schedule that was sent home at the start of last week.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 9 - 10

Literacy: In Writing, our students have written a narrative about ‘The Egg’. After drafting their story in their writing books, students were given the opportunity to learn how to publish using Pages on the class iPads. Students have learnt how to create and rename Pages docs, how to edit fonts by changing the size and colour, as well as including page breaks within their story. It has been wonderful to feel the excitement in each classroom during these Writing sessions. Students are now taking great pride in illustrating their wonderfully, creative stories.

Numeracy:  We will be revising some of the topics covered over the first half of the year, particularly in place value, addition and subtraction.

Inquiry:  Our final weeks of our inquiry unit, ‘What things are made of and why?’ are sure to be a fun way to finish. Students will make chocolate crackles and jelly in the Science room and participate in conversations around how the ingredients combine to make a new mixture. They will use scientific processes including observation and predicting whilst completing these experiences.

Willy Kids and Respectful Relationships: Willy Kids are ambitious - students will reflect about everything they have learnt this semester and consider their learning goals for Semester Two.

Until next time,

The Grade Two Team - Joel Kitchen (2J), Bianca Italiano / Zoe Kitchen (2I) & Rochelle White (2W)
