Dear families,
Student Conference Bookings Open Monday
Bookings for our Semester 1 Student Conferences, to be held on Tuesday 23 June, will open via Compass on Monday 15 June at 4:00pm.
Student conferences are an important part of our reporting process and provide families with an opportunity to discuss their child's learning, progress and goals with their classroom teacher.
Please note that due to Caitlin currently being on leave, Prep S conferences will be held early next term. Families in Prep S will receive further information regarding booking arrangements in due course.
We encourage families to book early to secure a preferred time and look forward to partnering with you in supporting your child's learning journey.
House Athletics Day
Today our students enjoyed a fantastic House Athletics Day, with students from across the school embracing the opportunity to participate, challenge themselves and proudly represent their house teams.
It was wonderful to see so many Willy Kids displaying outstanding sportsmanship, encouragement and enthusiasm throughout the day. Whether competing on the track, participating in field events or cheering on their peers, students should be commended for the positive manner in which they approached the event.
Events such as these are only possible through the support of our school community, and I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the many parent volunteers who generously gave up their time to assist throughout the day. Your support helped ensure the event ran smoothly and provided a memorable experience for all students.
A special thank you also goes to our staff for their organisation and preparation in delivering another successful House Athletics Day. We look forward to celebrating the achievements of our students and announcing the overall house results in the coming days.
Election Day and Democracy Sausage
A reminder that on Wednesday 17 June, our Year 5/6 students will be hosting their own Election Day, supported by the ever-popular Democratic Sausage.
As part of their Humanities and Civics and Citizenship unit, students will participate in an authentic election experience, exploring the importance of democracy, voting and active citizenship. The event provides students with a meaningful opportunity to apply their learning while developing important skills in leadership, organisation and teamwork.
The Election Day will be complemented by the Democratic Sausage, with funds raised supporting the students' learning experiences and community initiatives. We thank our Year 5/6 team and students for their efforts and look forward to another successful and engaging day of learning.
Good Luck to Our Regional Cross Country Competitors
We would like to wish all the best to the Williamstown Primary School students who will represent our school at the Regional Cross Country Championships on Monday.
Qualifying for the regional finals is a wonderful achievement and reflects the commitment, perseverance and resilience shown by these students throughout the cross country season. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the manner in which they have represented our school at both the district and division levels.
We wish all of our competitors the very best and look forward to hearing about their experiences and celebrating their achievements upon their return. Go Willy Kids!
Strong Interest in 2027 Enrolments
This week we hosted our fourth and final scheduled tour for prospective 2027 Prep families. Attendance across all four tours has been exceptionally strong, reflecting the continued interest in Williamstown Primary School and the positive feedback received from visiting families.
The tours have been wonderfully supported by our student leaders and staff and have provided an excellent opportunity to showcase our learning programs, facilities and the values that underpin what it means to be a Willy Kid. Due to the high level of enquiries received, we will be offering an additional enrolment tour early in Term 3 to provide further opportunities for prospective families to experience our school community.
Fortnightly Free Fruit Program
Our Fortnightly Free Fruit Program has now settled into a regular routine, with fresh fruit being available to students every second Friday. Aligning the program with our fortnightly assemblies has provided consistency for students and staff and has supported the smooth operation of the initiative.
The program continues to be well received by students and provides another opportunity to promote healthy eating and student wellbeing across our school community. Looking ahead, Term 3 will see us explore the introduction of a breakfast program to support selected students and families in need.
Supporting Student Wellbeing
We were delighted to recently receive a generous $2,500 donation from the Walk A Mile in My Shoes Foundation. These funds will be used to purchase LEGO resources to further strengthen our student wellbeing programs.
The foundation, supported by Treehaus and Jellis Craig, has been instrumental in raising awareness and funds to support the wellbeing of young people. I would like to acknowledge founder Justine Brogna, together with Williamstown Primary parent Emma Ferrier, who played a significant role in facilitating this donation.
A cheque presentation was held at our recent school assembly, providing an opportunity to acknowledge and thank the foundation and its supporters for their generosity and commitment to supporting the wellbeing of our students.
Warm regards,
Mat Montebello
