Resources to support families and students to be safe and responsible digital citizens

Hello everyone,

Over the coming weeks, students across Grades 3/4 and 5/6 will continue participating in our Digital Online Safety program. These lessons are taught by me in 3/4 and Mat in 5/6. They are designed to help students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to be safe, responsible and respectful digital citizens.

Grade 3/4 – Be Secure: Keeping Yourself and Your Device Safe

Grade 3/4 students will be exploring how to stay safe online by using the A.C.T. strategy – Ask, Check, Think. Students will learn how to critically evaluate what they see online, identify potential risks and make safe decisions when using websites, apps and devices.

Key learning areas include:

  • Recognising online situations that may be unsafe or suspicious.
  • Thinking critically about information, messages and online content.
  • Understanding how viruses and malware can affect devices.
  • Learning how strong passwords, privacy settings and security features help protect personal information.
  • Identifying trusted adults who can help when something online doesn't seem right.
  • Developing a personal online security plan to help keep devices and information safe.

Grade 5/6 – Making Good Choices Online

Our Grade 5/6 students will focus on making thoughtful and responsible choices online using the T.E.C. framework – Think, Evaluate, Choose. Through a range of realistic scenarios, students will consider how their online actions can impact themselves and others and practise making positive decisions in challenging situations.

Key learning areas include:

  • Understanding cyberbullying and its impact on individuals and communities.
  • Learning strategies to respond appropriately when witnessing or experiencing unkind behaviour online.
  • Exploring safe communication in online games and social platforms/message groups.
  • Recognising situations where personal information should not be shared.
  • Practising how to seek help, collect evidence and report concerns to trusted adults.
  • Understanding that online choices can have lasting consequences and affect family, friends and the wider community.

These lessons strongly connect to our Willy Kids values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Learning. We encourage families to continue these conversations at home by asking children what they have learned about staying safe online and discussing the importance of making positive choices when using technology. Working together helps our students build the skills they need to navigate the digital world safely and confidently.

Warm regards,

Steven Puhar

Apps List 2026

WPS Digital Learning Statement

Attached is the school’s digital statement outlining the online platforms and their privacy policies that the school uses on a day-to-day basis.

As part of the school’s ongoing student education, the school will further enhance key understandings around user privacy, as well as the tools available on selected devices.

This will be embedded within the current school’s eSafety program that currently sees students undertake numerous digital workshops run by both school leadership, classroom teachers and external providers such as the Alannah and Madeline Foundation’s eSmart organisation.

Parents are advised of a key iPad feature to turn tracking off. This feature will be explicitly demonstrated to students within the school-based workshops.

Go to Settings > Privacy > Tracking.

The list shows the apps that requested permission to track you. You can turn permission on or off for any app on the list.

To stop all apps from asking permission to track you, turn off Allow Apps to Request to Track (at the top of the screen).

JB HiFi Digital Purchase Portal 2025/2026

The JB HiFi purchase portal is again available for Willy PS families. The schools recommended minimum specification device is the iPad Gen 9, but the portal does also offer a range of iPad models and accessories. Although students have access to bluetooth keyboards we also recommend the Smart Keyboard or a 3rd party keyboard incorporated within the cover. This accessory will add value to the users experience.

Please also note the change in School Code.

Although the portal is set up through JB HI-FI on behalf of the school, we encourage families to explore all purchase options.
