Visual Art

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been putting the final touches on various projects we have been working on. As we head towards our planning days in week 9 &  10, we will complete these projects and then begin working on our ‘Crazy Camel’ art pieces. These art pieces are part of our fund-raising event where the students create an art piece that can be ordered and printed onto various items such as tea towels, calendars etc. More information about this event will go home in term 3.

Grade Prep

This week the Prep’s have continued to work on their own boom boxes by adding fluorescent paint patterns to the front of their boxes. We now have enough boxes for all the preps. Thank you to all those who donated shoe boxes for this activity. While Prep D were waiting to begin their boom boxes, they had a lesson on colour and colour mixing. They created some amazing sun catchers which are on display on the art room window.

Grade 1

The Grade 1’s are finishing off their wacky emus with a food dye background. The final step in this art piece will be to add something that will make their emus unique. Eg. A crown or hat.

Grade 2

The Grade 2’s did an amazing job on their 3D flies and we absolutely love them! These will make an amazing addition to our Art Show display alongside the grade 1 hats with the cork dangles.

Grade 3/4

This week we are finishing up our Vegemite jar pieces. These look fantastic and a few will be displayed in the office foyer by the end of the week. Our next activity will be to create snow globes using single cupcake containers. The students will use coloured paper clay to create these art pieces which will be inspired by the ‘big landmarks’ you can see around Australia.

Grade 5/6

The Grade 5/6’s are moving onto their next major project which is to create and design their own 3D mini food truck. This activity is a popular one! To help us with this activity, we ask that students bring in empty cereal boxes or boxes that have a similar thin cardboard so we can reinforce our mini food trucks. As the students are working on their food trucks, I have been ‘gelli’ plate printing with 6 different students each week. We’ve had lots of fun creating patterns using stencils and interesting colour combinations. I will continue to do this each week until every grade 5/6 student has had a go.

Art smocks

Just a reminder to bring in your Art smocks. Please hand them into your classroom teacher for storage. I recommend an old, oversized t-shirt or shirt with your child’s name on it.

We are looking for…..

To help with the creative process, we are asking for some materials that you may no longer need and would be happy to donate to the art room where we will turn them into magnificent art pieces. Some things we are looking for are old house paint brushes, empty cereal boxes or boxes that have a similar thin cardboard, and empty 1.5litre fizzy drink bottles (washed). The cereal boxes are the most urgent things we need at the moment. A big thank to everyone who donated shoe boxes. We have plenty now and won’t be needing anymore.  So, if you are doing a clean out and have these items can you please drop them off at the Art Room.

Thanks so much for your support!

Grade 5 & 6: Students are exploring striking and fielding games while also developing leadership skills. Through team activities and gameplay, students are learning how to communicate effectively, support their peers, and contribute positively to group success.

Sports Update

Congratulations to all of our students who recently competed at the Hobsons Bay Division Cross Country Championships. They represented Willy Primary with determination, resilience, and outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day.

We had a massive result, with nine runners qualifying for the Western Metropolitan Region Cross Country Finals on Monday. This is a fantastic achievement and reflects the hard work, dedication, and perseverance these students have shown throughout the cross-country season.

We wish all nine runners the very best of luck as they compete against some of the strongest runners from across the Western Metropolitan Region. We know they will represent Willy Primary with pride and give their very best effort. Go Willy!

Warm regards,

Paddy Gallivan

LOTE (French)

Prep – Year 2

Students have continued building on our French story about fruits and juice, bringing their learning to life through role play and performance. They have created their own characters and have enjoyed acting out scenes in front of the class, developing confidence in speaking and listening in French. As we near the end of the term, students are putting together everything they have learned to create a fun and interactive “French Juice Bar”, using vocabulary and expressions they have practised throughout the term.

Years 3 – 6

Students have now completed their French oral presentations or submitted voice recordings, demonstrating their growing confidence and pronunciation skills. We are now broadening our focus to explore the French language around the world. Students are learning about countries where French is widely spoken and are beginning to research different French-speaking regions, gaining a deeper understanding of the language and the cultures connected to it.

Warm regards,

Sara Borrens
