Learning About Safe and Unsafe Situations

This term, students in Foundation to Year 2 will be learning about how to identify safe and unsafe situations and how to respond appropriately to keep themselves and others safe.

As part of our Personal, Social and Community Health curriculum, students from Year 3 to Year 6 will soon participate in Topic 7: Safe and Unsafe Situations.

This learning has been carefully designed to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognise safe and unsafe situations and make informed decisions. The lessons are based on age-appropriate resources from the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and Dolly's Dream, whose vision is for all children and young people to be provided with the education, protection and support they need to be safe from abuse and other risks of harm.

Throughout this topic, students will:

• develop safety awareness and learn to recognise body cues that can help identify when a situation feels safe or unsafe;
• practise strategies for building and maintaining safe relationships, both in person and online;
• explore age-appropriate scenarios and discuss the safety decisions they would make;
• build confidence in reporting concerns and seeking help from trusted adults;
• develop empathy, inclusion and respect for others; and

• strengthen their understanding of fairness, equality and respectful relationships in everyday life.
