Foundation Learning Community

We have had a fabulous start to the term! We are very excited about special events coming up, beginning with our 100 Days of School Celebration next week on Friday, July 31st.

As part of our celebration, the children will dress up for the day as a ‘Centurian’.  There will be grey hair, canes, and cardigans galore!!!

Book Week

Book Week Dress Up Day will be celebrated  on Tuesday August 25h.

Students can come dressed up as a character from their favourite book.

Maggie Mouse’s Birthday Suprise!

It’s Maggie Mouse’s Birthday soon, and all her friends want to hold a surprise party for her on Wednesday September 2nd.

To celebrate learning all our letters, students can come to school dressed as one of our letter characters. We hope you can get some inspiration from the key rings in your child’s reading folder. We kindly ask that each child please bring in a small plate of party food to share.

Show and Tell

We will be beginning Show and Tell this term. If your child has some news to share or show, they can do this on their reading check-in day. These sessions are aimed at encouraging speaking clearly in front of a group and answering questions.

Mass

The Foundation students will be celebrating a class Mass on Friday the 7th of August. We warmly invite family members to come and celebrate with us. Mass is celebrated at 11:30.

Reading  Folders

Thank you for the time you put into listening to your child read at home. It is wonderful to hear the children read their home reader with such fluency because they have read the book 3 or 4 times at home. You may have noticed we have put in an extra reader for further practice and consolidation. Practicing at home really does support your child's learning.

Tricky Words

Your child now has the Term 3 Tricky words in their reading folder. These can also be found towards the back of their Term 3 'Reading Diary'. The aim of learning Tricky Words is to help reading fluency.  Check in with your child's progress. Can they recognise the Tricky words in Sets 1-5?  We are now moving to learning the words in Sets 6-9 this Term.

Things to do:

  • Read the lists of tricky words
  • Write them out on paper/cardboard and play memory, go fish
  • Time how quickly they can read a set
