Year 1

English

In English, we have been learning about the suffix -ed and how adding it to a word changes its meaning, often showing that something has already happened. We have also been reviewing the Bossy e rule and practising how the silent e changes the vowel sound in words.

Mathematics

We have recently completed our unit on Measurement. Students learnt how to measure the length of objects horizontally and the height of objects vertically using appropriate measuring strategies. We have now begun our new unit on Repeating Patterns, where students are identifying, creating and extending a variety of patterns.

Inquiry (Geography)

Our new Geography unit, Our Land and Our Connections, is underway. So far, students have been learning about Australia's states and territories and have explored the seven continents of the world. We look forward to discovering more about how people connect with places and the environment throughout this unit.

Religion

In Religion, we are focusing on Daily Life in Jesus' Time. Students are learning about what life was like during Jesus' time, including the customs, homes, occupations and daily routines of the people who lived then.

Sport

During our Sport lessons, students have been enthusiastically preparing for our whole-school Sports Day. They have been practising a range of events, including sack races, discus, shot put, and vortex throwing. It has been wonderful to see everyone developing their skills, teamwork and confidence while having fun.

Year 2

We welcome all Year 2 students and families back to Term 3. The children have enjoyed sharing their school holiday stories with each other. Term 3 is shaping up to be a wonderful term of learning for all our students. The students have returned very happy with beautiful, big smiles.

Religion:

The students are currently learning about Daily life in Jesus' time. Students are exploring what daily life was like in Jesus’ time to better understand the world in which he lived. Through imagery, guided dialogue, and reflection, students are beginning to connect Jesus’ life to their own experiences.

Numeracy:

The students are currently learning about Multiplication and Division. Children have been halving and doubling numbers, skip counting, representing multiplication with arrays and repeated addition. Students are learning different vocabulary associated with multiplication.

Literacy:

Now that we are back into the swing of learning for Term 3, we would like to remind families of the importance of hearing your child read each night and to practice tricky words. A list of Tricky words for Term 3, will be sent home in the next week.  As with last term, we require all children to be able to write and spell these words. Learning for the students requires rehearsal and repetition, which involves school and home. Students will continue to check in with their teacher on their designated day in Term 3.

Inquiry Learning - Geography:

Our new Inquiry Unit this term is based on the geography topic "Our Land and Our Connections." The student will be researching where we live in our wonderful world and identifying the states and territories in Australia. The students will learn the basic skills of reading a map.

We are looking forward to meeting with you next week in our 3-way chats to celebrate student achievements and to set learning goals for the remainder of the year.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email us or come in and see us.
